The Black Stars of Ghana today lined up against The Selecao of Brazil in the first of 3 warm up matches before the World Cup. This was the 5th time that the Ghanaian side were coming up against the world number 2. The Brazilians had won all 4 earlier encounters. Even before the match, Ghanaians knew that this will be a hard one to crack. This didn’t however deter Ghanaians from supporting the team.
Coach Otto Addo named a familiar squad ahead of the game with only Thomas Partey missing. Minutes before the game it was revealed that the star player had picked up an injury and had to be replaced by Baba Idrissu. All the debutants had to start from the bench. The brazil team started with a full squad that had Neymar, Casemiro, Alisson and Vinicius Jnr. The game started with the Brazilians going straight into attack.
It wasn’t surprising then that on the 9th minute mark Marquinhos got the first goal. This was followed by 2 other quick goals in the 28th and 39th to make it 3. The brace from Richarlison softened the game and put it beyond the reach of the Black Stars Indeed the Brazilians had a number of chances to have buried the Black Stars.
The first half ended with Ghana trailing. The second half started with Ghana improving as the coach made some quick changes. Inaki and Salisu were introduced early on with Tariq, Semenyo and Owusu coming on late. The game ended 3-0 in favour of Brazil. Ghanaians have been reacting to the game with some saying that the coach failed to start with the right team. Some felt that the Partey injury cost Ghana the game.
Interestingly, some feel the Black Stars lacked confidence and failed to bring their A game into the game. Check out some of the reactions after the game.
