It’s Almost Impossible For All Ghanaians To Re-Register Before Extended Deadline – Apaak

Dr. Clement Apaak, a member of parliament representing Builsa South, has said that it is impossible to meet the revised deadline for the SIM re-registration exercise. The deadline of July 31 was extended by two additional months by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalization, because many people were unable to obtain their card.

After the initial prolongation on Thursday, March 31, it was the second. In a press conference on Sunday, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful stated that she had to “reluctantly” extend the deadline once more. “I have very reluctantly decided to grant a final conditional extension after consulting with the industry and in light of the challenges enumerated above.”

With this most recent choice, the exercise, which began on Friday, October 1, will have been ongoing for exactly one year, according to her. “The program will continue through September 30 in order to terminate on the anniversary of its start. We will then have a full year of SIM registration thanks to it.

On the New Day program on TV3 with Berla Mundi on Tuesday, August 2, when asked if the timetables could be met, Dr. Clement Apaak responded, “I do not think they are, for obvious reasons.

“First of all, technology is meant to make life easier, as we all know… Technology is meant to improve our lives and make them simpler, but when efforts are made to bring it to every person, some people start to feel as though they are being punished.

That cannot possibly be something they will value. The timetables are unrealistic because, according to Prof. Ken Attafuah of the National Identification Authority, it will be nearly impossible for all Ghanaians to register by the end of the extended deadline given the amount of work they still have to perform.
