GIJ’s Research Directorate to hold third inter-faculty seminar

The Directorate of Research, Innovation, and Development (DRID) of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) has set Friday, September 23, for its third inter-faculty research seminar on the topic; “Fighting ‘real’ fire? – A case of two Ghanaian Crises Management Organisations.”

The topic was informed by a study conducted in the area of crisis management in the country citing two leading state institutions, that is, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

The study focuses on how these institutions “communicate with their various groups of the public before, during, and after crises using a mixed method approach.”

The event will take place in the seminar room of the Institute’s North Dzorwulu campus at 10:00 am.

Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Public Relations, Advertising and Integrated Marketing (FOPAM), Mavis Essandoh (PhD) is the main speaker for the event, and it will be chaired by the Deputy Rector, Professor Eric Opoku Mensah.

DRID has, as its key objective, to bring the faculties together to share ideas while professing recommendations to policymakers and media practitioners alike.

The event is expected to generate educative and insightful conversations geared towards increasing support for the country’s emergency response institutions to meet international standards.
