A suspected cultist, Jinai Sunday, shot himself in the arm while trying to load and remove a live cartridge from a locally made handgun in Ogun state.
The state’s Amotekun Corps said the “gun accidentally exploded, resulting in serious injuries to his left arm.”
Ogun Amotekun Corps commander CP David Akinremi (rtd) said Sunday and other accomplices who are “members of the Aiye cult group” were at their usual meeting in a bush at Kakanfo village in Obada-Owode local government area Imeko-Afon of Ogun State when the incident occurred.
According to Akinremi, after the sound of a gunshot, the Amotekun coordinator in Imeko-Afon immediately took action and arrested the injured suspect and then one Adejare Kehinde.
The Amotekun boss revealed that said Adejare Kehinde was later revealed during interrogation “to be an agent who procured locally made pistols for the gang from the Republic of Benin”.
A member of the gang named Ogundele Elijah (aka Ogun 07), who admitted to being an ex-convict after serving a six-month sentence at Ilaro Correctional Center for cultism, was later arrested based on previous confessions by the first two suspects.
“However, agents from the Corps are on the trail of other members of the gang who are still at large,” the DAILY POST learned.
