Anne Heche Dies Following Car Crash; Beloved Actress Was 53

Tragic news out of Hollywood today, as Anne Heche has passed away at the age of 53.

Heche was involved in a fiery car accident on August 5 and she never emerged from her coma.

Reps for the actress confirmed on Thursday that she was not expected to survive, and was being kept on life support so that her viable organs could be donated in accordance with her issues.

Heche’s car crashed into a home in a Los Angeles suburb, and the vehicle burst into flames.

Police have confirmed that Heche had fentanyl and cocaine in her system at the time of her death.

Anne’s friend Nancy Davis was the first to confirm the news of her passing.

“Heaven has a new Angel. My loving, kind, fun, endearing and beautiful friend @anneheche went to heaven,” Davis wrote on Instagram.

“I will miss her terribly and cherish all the beautiful memories we have shared. Anne was always the kindest, most thoughtful person who always brought out the best in me.”

Davis noted that in addition to her work as an actress, Anne will be remembered for her tireless humanitarian efforts, including her work toward raising money for multiple sclerosis research.

“She was so supportive with anything she could do to help @racetoerasems and would always say yes when she knew she could contribute something with her time, talent and creative genius to help find a cure for MS,” she wrote.

Anne first rose to fame portraying twins Vicky Hudson and Marley Love on the soap opera Another World.

By the mid-nineties she was one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actresses, starring in a string of hits that included Donnie Brasco, Volcano, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Gus Van Sant’s remake of the Hitchcock classic Psycho.

In the 2000s, Heche transitioned back to television with recurring roles on series such as Men In Trees, Hung, and The Brave.

She also appeared as a contestant in the 29th season of Dancing with the Stars in 2020.

Heche made tabloid headlines in 1997 as a result of her three-year romantic relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.

The two are credited with being one of Hollywood’s first openly gay couples.

They went their separate ways in 2000.

Shortly thereafter, Heche married cameraman Coleman “Coley” Laffoon, with whom she welcomed a son.

After divorcing Laffoon, Heche welcomed a second son with her Men In Trees co-star James Tupper.

“Thoughts and prayers for this lovely woman, actress and mother tonight Anne Heche,” Tupper tweeted upon receiving word of Heche’s accident earlier this week.

“We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills hospital,” reads the latest statement from Heche’s reps.

“Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit,” the statement continues.

“More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work –especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”

Across social media, family friends, and a legion of adoring fans are paying tribute to Anne.

While struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues, Heche managed to touch many lives during her all-too-short time on earth, and she will be greatly missed.
