400-level student laments after being denied N350k job because he’s still in school
A 400-level student, Sam-Obisike Chibueze Wenendah, has revealed how the ongoing ASUU strike affected his chances of snagging a juicy job.
The man who is studying Mechatronics at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, said he lost a job that offers N350k monthly because the recruiter discovered he is still a student.
Chibueze applied for job as a student, and attended the interview which passed, but one fact that worked against him was that he is not yet a graduate.
Speaking with Legit, he said the employer denied him the job when he disclosed that he is still a student, a setback caused by delayed graduation.
The software engineering enthusiast said: “I am bothered because I have been offered full-time roles by some firms. I passed the interviews but when they found out I was still a student, everything was terminated. I was supposed to have graduated by now.”
Chibueze then went on to blame the incessant strikes that delay students’ graduation on the government.
He said: “I blame the system we are in. If things were going fine, there will be no tussle between ASUU and the government. ASUU is fighting a just cause. I blame the situation of things and governance in Nigeria.”
